The Pentecost Festival book is packed full of real life stories and ideas showcasing how the church is at the forefront of social, community and justice issues in the UK and abroad. While the festival practically profiles hundreds of agencies and charities of the church, this book gives some of them an opportunity to unpack their contributions to the breadth of the church of the UK in-depth.

With contributions from Andy Frost (*emergingculture), Dr Daleep Mukarji (Christian Aid), Practical Wizdom (GreenJade), Nola Leach (CARE), Jonathan Olyede (Global Day of Prayer London) and many more besides, this book is comprised of truly diverse examples of how the church is engaging, transforming and challenging the world in the twenty-first century.

Alongside this the book also tells the story behind the birth and vision of the festival and goes on to explain how the festival holds its foundations in accounts of the first Pentecost.

‘The thermostat of the church has been set to "comfort" for too long. Jesus Christ is challenging his friends to replace our old invitation - "come to us" -with a fresh determination to "go to them". We are being called to active compassion in the power of prayer. This book is brim full of the Holy Spirit whose energy translates pious rhetoric into a genuinely Christ-like life project.’  Rt Revd & Rt Hon Richard Chartres DD FSA Bishop of London

‘This is an engaging account written by an eclectic group of writers about a vision to see the Church showcased in all its colour, diversity and creativity.  With vivid and raw language, each chapter expresses a unique portrait of Jesus.  The words, ideas and images captured in this book catapult off the pages, paving the way for a Pentecost Festival that will most definitely witness the Church burst out of its building and into the streets.’ Joel Edwards, General Director, Evangelical Alliance

Everybody – without faith, age, or cultural exception – cares about the global challenges of climate change and child poverty, local communities and projects, and personal hopes and joys in our own lives. The church is constantly attempting to give answer to all of these issues in word and action – indeed the church is often leading the way in these fields.

When we represent Jesus and church values in each of these issues we begin to find some distant answers; much work is needed but solutions are in sight. The church deserves a credible platform from which to speak. Perhaps if we represent the spread of work of the remarkably diverse body that is the church we may just achieve that platform...
